Meet Macau Composer and Guitarist Matias Leong

1.2k

Introducing Matias Leong, a composer and a guitar player from Macau. In his long career Matias has lived through the music industry’s ups and downs, from his modest beginnings through to global superstardom. Come with me and we will discover his musical path, starting with his time in Macau to how his study with the jazz masters in Los Angeles transformed him.

In 1994, Matias Leong released the batch of electronically assembled pieces using basic stuff, but they were gradually forgotten. Matias nevertheless revised them in the COVID period of 2020, adding new tracks and giving them the conceptual title 1994 and then some of a guitar performance album.

In 2007, Matias took a brave step of leaving everything behind in order to get musically educated in Los Angeles. Under tutelage of musical masters like Frank Gambale, Matías improved and bigger his musical horizons. It would lead him to formulate his notion of artistry and develop his talent towards musical perfection.

After two years of intensive study in Los Angeles, Matias went back to Macau, where he promptly became a very influential musician in the local music circle. Besides gigging in cafes and bookstores Matias also enjoyed considerable success as a music teacher, his students attracted by his easy, informed way. His dedication in fostering the next generation of musicians and his loyalty to assisting local singers have finally established him as a repectable mentor and producer in Macau.
