Fiona Amaka Explores Love’s Cosmic Lessons in New Single “Justified (Cosmic)”

226

London-based singer Fiona Amaka has shared introspective intentions about love and loss in her new song “Justified (Cosmic). Working with multi-instrumentalist and producer K. Proudlove, Fiona turns in a delicate, sentimental analysis of leaving a relationship and the doubts it brings.

“Justified (Cosmic)” starts in the form of soft strumming guitars and slow tempo which gradually builds up the effect and the openness of the sound pleasantly corresponds the rough vocal of Fiona. Her voice dripping with apparent anxiety, she positively gnashes at each note, unwilling to give herself fully to the memory of lost love and the sweet, yet bitter reminder, to leave things as they are. The song specifically does a great job of taking one part of regret and pulling at wanting to fix things, while at the same time recognizing the mistakes made by both sides that don’t make forgiveness easy.

As for lyrics, Fiona’s lyrics are poetic but at the same time as clear as shouting: the memories of a moment, thoughts of what might have been but could not be. Produced by K. Proudlove, the music is celestial; piano, synths are as light as air, guitar warm and for the most part, there are layers of dreamy synths, all ideal for Fiona’s emotionally charged lyrical narrative.

The track is simple in its folk production but complements it with layers and lushness making the sound production feel closer to home and epic at the same time. Thus, the beats of the song – slow, steady – creates a good platform on which Fiona can sing, and the lyrics of which are full of meaning. The staging’s also really tight, not over-extravagant, but adding to the introspective lyrics of the song in terms of performance.

In “Justified (Cosmic)” Fiona Amaka faithfully progresses her path of an artist, remaining open while brushing on both the triumphs and struggles of love. The track is a perfect example of how she can blend stories of everyday life with beautiful melodies; thus, anyone who once asked the question, at least once, about the essence of love and loss should listen to the track.
