Rice’s new song, “C’est La Vie,” is a song from Rhis upcoming EP “Love Shouldn’t Cost a Thing”. The title is simply translated as “this is life”, and the idea is complete with the song. It is about all the interactions people have with each other and the opposite sexes, and what they learn from them. It reveals the situations where we first discover that some people are intended to be with us and others are not.
In this particular track, Rice proves how much better an artist he has become. He combines his voice, lyrics and the way he sings them in such a perfect way where you get a personal story but at the same time it’s a universal song. It’s not a wake to heartbreak or struggles; rather it is about the hope and wisdom which comes after being broken hearted or after struggling. This song helps Rice make the comments on the joys and sorrow that is life but does so in a way that stays fairly positive.
The recording and production of the aptly entitled song are not complex at all but suffice the mastery of a good remix. It starts with, what may be used as the first line, some deep chords which draw your attention at first glance. Then there follows the introduction of the drums which are more hip hop and Reggae to compliment Rice’s soulful voice. The rhythm is good and Rice does not struggle to make her rhyme scheme come out nice; thus making the song both good and meaningful. If more overlay, his voice is as clear and calm as always and the song becomes more personal.
“C’est La Vie” would be worthy of more than just the rhythms, it’s a way of telling people the fact that change and growth is inevitable. An interesting combination of meaningful lyrics and launch of the contemporary sound makes it as a composition which the listeners will not forget. Rice’s piece can be particularly appreciated by those who are in the middle of the complicated relationships and who strive to make the best choices.
