Award-winning multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Bird has released her highly anticipated new single, “Daddy”, on February 7th. The track is the first glimpse of her upcoming EP, Heads or Tales, due for release in late Spring 2025, and is a stunning exploration of familial roles and the complex emotional dynamics that occur within families.
“Daddy” is a masterful slice of Americana and contemporary folk, featuring Bird’s signature sweeping string soundscapes and delicate finger-plucked guitar melodies. Recorded between London and Nashville Tennessee, it features an all-star American band including Country Award winning guitarist Ilya Toshinsky and Rascal Flatts’ musician and producer Jay DeMarcus on bass.
Speaking on ‘Daddy’, Bird shares: “This is a love song. However, it is not about how much love someone feels but how little. How a fundamental lack of love when someone is young may create a driving a desire to achieve, that they might have great financial or worldly success but are left unable to ever fill the empty void tenderness should occupy..
It’s about how that void can travel and become passed down from generation to generation, mutating subtly along the way, causing chains of repeating negative events that are near impossible to break”.
