With her new video to the song “Daily Dose of Danger”, Ævina gives us a unique glimpse into her mind. What this video does is amplify her spooky, home-recorded sound and pair it with a meaningful narrative that, to me, only enhances the music. Featuring some disturbing imagery and unapologetically stylized art, Ævina is ready to present her readers to the Ukulelian, a little alien girl who is in the process of adapting to human life on this planet.
The video begins with Ævina’s character, The Ukulelian, emerging from an ‘egg’ in the form of a spider where the main environment is recreated mimicking a womb like throw. The Ukulelian is interested in the Earth and its people, trying out various ways Earthions wear and behave. This character with her haunted look and her delicate ukulele tells us that music and art, do not need to be perfect. For Ævina, the ukulele actually means music that is honest and accessible for everybody, that is good even with the flaws.
In the whole concept of the video, the scenes shot are dreamlike and have a somber ambiance; the effect of walking into another entire world. One of my favorite moments is when Ævina performs standing right in front of a sculpture of a giant spider which symbolizes reborn and transformation. She has a gothic heroine, with elements of a sci-fi alien, all at once with her costumes, Make-up, and hair.
The song is a slow, melodic slow tune where Ævina has her vocals enveloping tender ukulele riffs. It rises above that to become a narrative of embracing imperfection as demonstrated in the video. The Ukulelian learns to accept the alien and human aspects of her character, and the video suggests that she embraces her true self, including the imperfections.
In “Daily Dose of Danger” Ævina explains that it is cool to be offended for being unique. A deep mood, artistic visions and peculiar images all contribute to the memorable picture which proclaims the message that it is not necessary to be fantastic to make sense. It is a wistful and enchanting video that reflects the amazing and musically scorched core of Ævina that wants to highlight that nothing quenches her desire to be true to herself.
