966

“Luzingu” by Yotsi is a powerful and evocative single from the emerging Kinshasa-based group, featured on their debut album “Maisha.” The song, mixed in Paris by Yarol Poupaud and mastered in LA by Mario Caldato, is a vibrant and heartfelt tribute to their fans and a poignant commentary on the plight of Tshegue (street children) in the DRC.

The track is written in Kikongo and combines traditional Congolese rhythms with influences of jazz, funk, and folk, creating a unique and compelling sound. The heartfelt lyrics, sung with passion and sincerity, highlight the difficult living conditions faced by street children, making a strong social statement. The band’s commitment to addressing social issues through their music is evident and impactful.

Yotsi’s journey, from playing in neighborhood churches to forming their own group under the guidance of Eric Malu-Malu at the Kinarmonik Professional Music Training Center, adds depth to their music. Their dedication to gender parity and their multicultural lyrical approach in languages such as Lingala, Tshiluba, Swahili, Kimongo, and Kikongo set them apart in the contemporary music scene.

“Luzingu” is a standout track that not only showcases Yotsi’s musical talent but also their commitment to making a difference. It’s a must-listen for anyone interested in music that carries a powerful message and reflects the vibrant cultural tapestry of the DRC.
