Finnish band Us Presents A new single and Its Accompanying Video

380

Finnish band Us has released a new single, “Hop on a Cloud,” that brings a delightful blend of influences from Smokey Robinson and Canadian artist Tobias Jesso Jr. The song also echoes the quirky 1960s pop style of The Kinks. This unique mix creates a nostalgic yet fresh sound that is both charming and captivating.

The music video for “Hop on a Cloud” was shot in two distinct locations: bustling London and snowy Helsinki. London is a fitting backdrop, as the song was conceived there, inspired by daydreams on the underground and recorded at The Libertines’ The Albion Rooms in Margate. The combination of these diverse settings adds to the song’s dreamy and whimsical vibe.

What sets the video apart is its use of Super 8 film, giving it a grainy, retro feel reminiscent of The Monkees’ era. However, frontman Teo Hirvonen clarifies that the choice of film was not for a retro aesthetic but to stand out from the digital visuals that dominate social media, TV, and cinema today. He believes that film offers a more beautiful and emotional quality.

“Hop on a Cloud” is a refreshing and evocative single that successfully blends past and present influences. The thoughtful production and visually striking video enhance the song’s dreamy quality, making it a standout release from Us.
