Live, Raw, and Soulful: The All’s Eye Shines on “Saturday Sessions”

31

Saturday Sessions by The All’s Eye is an incredible live album bearing the best of music itself, in all its raw, real, feeling glory. This lively trio consisting of Ari Joshua on guitar and vocals, Ben Atkind on drums, and Kris Yunker on organ and vocals recorded the two-track EP live at the Barbershop Studios for Emmy-winning producer Matt Rifino’s Saturday Sessions series. The end is a compelling experience that makes you feel like you’re in the room with them.

The two songs “Gramama” and “Say What You Wanna Say” were captured in a one take but with very few changes afterwards. This makes the music feel more natural, and un-faked out energy. The trio flows confidently between various sounds from soul, psychedelic rock, gospel, jazz and even bits of bluegrass with, of course, the groove never wavering or weak.

A tribute, “Gramama”, to Ari’s late grandmother, Granny Queenie is a beautiful one. With a gospel-like mood and a rhythmic consistency it praises her spirit and the wisdom she left behind. It refers to family love, memories and to spiritual strength.

The other one “Say What You Wanna Say” is bold and fiery. In its original form, this is for another session, here the new version introduces psychedelic rock and jazz and it feels fresh and exciting. The song encourages us to be honest emotionally and to express ourselves reminding us to speak our truth.

Besides amazing music, Saturday Sessions accompanies artistic vision and video, a full experience. These guys clearly have some serious chemistry and their sound is thoughtful as well as exhilarating.

Featuring a lot more music to come and queued live appearances, The All’s Eye shows that they are a band to watch; and Saturday Sessions is just where anyone should get started.
