536

Kya Kyani, is a Berlin-based music artist. Being born in Amsterdam, Netherlands,
and having Surinamese roots. Kya grew up as an (Orthodox) Rastafarian being foremostly inspired by Reggae. At a young age they formed a gospel choir with them
siblings and frequently performed to be able to do what they loved most. Coming of age and being exposed to a greater scale of genres, Kya was able to organically grow
in them taste and style for creating Kyas own futureRnB & darkPop sound through-
lived and influenced by Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Timberland, Sevdaliza, Destiny’s Child,
Brandy, Tony Braxton, TLC, Nelly Furtado.

Wherever there was an opportunity, Kya loves to bring them diversity and creativity to the table. “Although I’m a singer and songwriter, as well I am expressing the persona Kya Kyani, I’m not confined to one topic. My created artistry   stands for much more. I want to embrace and empower my audience and people who relate to my music and style as a black & queer person.”

futureR&B / darkPop is a mix of different genres like neo soul, alternative and trippy pop, but it is not just limited by those.

“It is a dauntless blend of emotions translated into melodic sounds, lyrics and vocals. An escape from reality and stereotypes into a dreamworld. On the other side of the spectrum, light years away from normalcy. There you have the possibility to deepen into the unknown.”

“I started writing at a very young age, even before I realised I had a voice. I used to write stories about everything I imagined doing when I grew up. Energy would flow through me and express itself through verse and rhyme.”

She is out with a new single called ‘Core.’ Core was featured pre-release in SkyTV’s “The Lazarus Project”, setting the tone for the year to come. A further single, Cry, will be released on 03.03.2023, followed by the full EP, Nebula, on 31.03.2023.

How the music shaped Kya made them understand that there still needs to be more openness in perceiving things going through life. Therefore Kya chose to live in the present and try to keep the balance between dark and light to stay aware while dreaming. Another year of growth applied the feels, the moods, heavy and yet ethereal lightweight vibes of the present to the music they share in order to break things that make us conform or be forced into roles and categorizations.
