Devan Blake Jones (The Voice Season 20) Wards Off Small Talk in New Single & Music Video “Frivolous”

Multi-faceted Denver-based vocalist, Devan Blake Jones, serves up a fresh, new soul-pop direction in his debut Color Red single “Frivolous.” Jones appeared in season 20 of NBC’s The Voice in 2021 where he landed a spot on Nick Jonas’ team and became an underdog favorite with Jonas using his only coveted “save” on Jones to keep him in the competition and winning the 4-way knockout to progress him to the Top 17 giving Jonas the upper edge with two of his team members climbing up the ranks. Jones performed an array of selections by Harry Styles, H.E.R, Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber, and Backstreet Boys on the show and takes influence from modern pop and R&B artists to metamorphize into a musical chameleon which is demonstrated in the upbeat, dark pop single “Frivolous.”

“Frivolous” is Jones’ musical metaphor for the music industry at large which can be riddled with small talk, rumors, and deception. He compares it to wanting to go out and have a good night with your friends, but instead, all they want to do is small talk and gossip. “It’s kind of crazy how my own song has become therapy to situations I’ve been in,” he reflects. The song is accompanied by a music video filmed in Denver’s Nativ Hotel and directed by Salwa Owens, filmed by Christopher Roe & Co. and edited by
Rosco Guerrero.

With over a decade on the Denver scene first performing with the formerly internationally acclaimed afrobeat band, ATOMGA, and shifting to a solo career careening through R&B projects, opening for artists such as Ty Dolla Sign and Nelly, singer-songwriter endeavors after teaching himself guitar, and a hip-hop
leaning mixtape, Jones comes into his own with the polished soul-pop direction he takes in “Frivolous,” produced by Jordan Linit of Analog Son and co-founder of the premiere full-service talent and production agency, Great Family Reunion.

Since the show, he has kept himself busy performing at Red Rocks twice, once for the longstanding Film on the Rocks series in 2022 and opening for Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy in 2021. He recently performed in his sixth ‘Fierce in the City’ fashion show produced by Salwa Owens which showcases local
fashion designers and performers.
Jones plans on continuing to release music highlighting different elements of his multi-dimensional personality and enigmatic nature that refuses to be confined to a singular style or proverbial box.
