Emjay’s ‘Ntrurundu’ Sheds Light on Personal Struggles and Resilience

1.3k

Emjay, a Nigerian-born artist currently residing in Toronto, discusses his past experiences and expresses his pain in a new contemporary afrobeat song titled “Ntrurundu.”

The word “Nturundu” is a Nigerian word that translates to “Hurt.” In the song, Emjay discussed his troubles in Nigeria before moving to Toronto, Canada, as well as how his friends turned a blind eye to his struggles and the poisonous connections he had there.

He claims that “Nturundu” is a song that captures his innermost feelings during a difficult time, particularly when he didn’t have a car, had to take an express bus everywhere, and was uncertain of his future.

The song has a catchy tune and a beautiful arrangement. Emjay also did very well with the performance. He relaxed for the beat and sang so magnificently with his nice soft voice.

Despite Emjay deliberately spewing out his sorrows and inner thoughts about his previous struggles, the song features upbeat instrumentation which invites listeners to dance to the song and connect with the lyrics. Emjay deliberately chose to make the lyrics of the song mismatch with the peppy instrumental background.

Listeners can dance to the beat’s rhythm and connect with the lyrics at the same time.
