A Raw and Unrelenting Journey Through “Catharsis”, a new album by Ophelia’s Eye

217

The current album of the Ophelia’s Eye titled “Catharsis” is the outstanding representation of the human feelings that touches both individual and social problems. Every track is meaningful with powerful lyrics coupled with even more powerful music arrangements. Its poetic motifs varies from personal crisis to the topics of the world’s need for the change and therefore charges the audience with extra positive emotions.

The first song ‘Drowning in a Cloud,’ sets up the mood for the entire album having listeners submerged in hopelessness. It offers the hope of the change people desire but the hopelessness that accompanies that desire. The music is drastically more emotive and the fast pacing prepared the listener for the very direct themes of the album. After that, “Burn a Wish”, speaks about the sorrow of having one’s burdens that have been created by oneself. This song features great riffs as well as desperation or at least the striving to break free from regret to find hope again.

In “High Tide” subject turns to reckless human activities which convey the feeling of a world approaching chaos. Their structure and especially the lyrics force the listener to think and act before its too late. “Catharsis” is consequently more optimistic piece, suggesting that even when one is in the shadows, it is possible to begin the process of being anew. As is suggested by the intensity of the verse lyrics and the softly sung chorus, the location of hope and despair is explored in the song permanently.

The final song entitled  “Stay Close We’re Dying” expresses the need to be together as a society when meeting challenges. Because of the increased rhythmicity and content of the lyrics, it can rightfully be considered the finale of an emotional arc.

Ophelia’s Eye has provided listeners with a hardcore album that doubles is as a workout inspiration. It is thus easy to see that they are great at creating powerful tool sound but at the same time they set that in combination with actual lyrics they remember. In addition to tracing the band’s evolution this release also dares listeners to face their fears and embrace change.
