Vermont-based Afropop group A2VT are back with a brand-new single and video titled “Nyuki,” released on October 24th. The group, known for their energetic blend of African rhythms and modern pop sounds, are also celebrating a big win—being named “Best Vermont Hip Hop Group, 2025” at the Seven Days Daysie Awards.
Lead singer and founder Jilib describes “Nyuki” as a song that reconnects him to his Somali Bantu roots. Sung entirely in Maay Maay, his native language, the track carries a deep sense of culture and identity. The language, once unwritten, has recently been codified, making this song not only a musical expression but also a cultural celebration.
A2VT took a slightly different direction with this release, leaning into a more roots-inspired sound while keeping their signature Afropop energy alive. The video and live performances now feature new members, including R.O.D. and Meax, marking a fresh chapter for the group after some lineup changes following the pandemic.
Despite the transitions, A2VT continue to move forward with strength and creativity. “Winning the Daysie award always is a great feeling!” Jilib shares proudly.
With “Nyuki,” A2VT prove that their music is more than entertainment—it’s a bridge between cultures, languages, and generations, carrying the heartbeat of Africa straight to Vermont.
