Aneta George Navigates Motion and Emotion on “Rollercoaster”

186

“Rollercoaster,” the focus track from Aneta George’s new album Eclipses, captures the essence of a project built at the intersection of jazz improvisation, Balkan rhythm, and deeply personal storytelling. It’s a piece that doesn’t settle into one emotional state for long, instead moving with intention between tension and release.

Recorded with her ensemble Melem during two rare celestial moments—a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse—the album carries a strong sense of contrast and transformation. That atmosphere is especially present on “Rollercoaster,” where shadow and clarity, structure and freedom, seem to exist side by side. The music feels alive, shaped as much by instinct as by composition.

The track unfolds like its title suggests. Tight, controlled passages give way to open improvisation, mirroring the experience of instability and the quiet work of finding balance again. There’s an underlying momentum throughout, but it’s never rushed—each shift feels purposeful, reflective, and human.

“Rollercoaster” is about movement: emotional, musical, and internal. It stands as the heart of Eclipses, expressing the album’s central idea of navigating uncertainty while trusting the rhythm that eventually brings you back to equilibrium.
