Benedict October’s ‘Beautiful Way to Die’ Unveils a Profound Journey of Loss and Beauty

107

Benedict October’s new song, “Beautiful Way to Die,” is a sad but touching song about his dad. The song talks about the week when Benedict’s dad passed away in 2020 during the COVID-19 time. Benedict wrote the song to remember that week, especially because it was the time his dad built a new house.

His dad had a dream to make his own house, and even though he was a bit sick and had heart surgery, he worked on it. Benedict tells how his dad got more and more sick while building the house. One day, his mom called Benedict to say his dad was in the hospital. Benedict and his family spent a month going between home and the hospital. His dad fought hard, but in the end, he wanted to go home to the house he built.

In less than a day after coming home, Benedict’s dad passed away. Benedict, his mom, and his sister were there, holding his dad’s hands. Benedict describes a moment when his dad took his last breath, and he saw something beautiful yet sad – like a grey veil lifting away. The song is a way for Benedict to remember his dad and the bittersweet beauty of how he passed away.
