Big Zaga: The Multifaceted Congolese Artist Making Waves in Music and Advocacy

Meet Rodrigo Suarez Kimbambu, better known by his stage names “Big Zaga,” “For the Ladies,” “Tonton Bio,” and “The natural clean boy.”

Born on June 5, 1985, in Kinshasa to a Spanish father and Congolese mother, Big Zaga is a talented artist who has made a significant impact in the music industry.

With his diverse musical style and thought-provoking content, Big Zaga captivates audiences not only with his music but also with his advocacy work.

In 2023, he returns with two new Spanish titles, “Linda” and “Beso,” showcasing his versatility and passion for his craft.

From a young age, Big Zaga developed a love for dancehall music and drew inspiration from iconic artists such as Julio Iglesias, Michael Jackson, Chaca Demus, Shaba Ranks, Shaggy, Beenie Man, and Sean Paul.

His father would provide him with cassettes of these artists, fueling his passion for the genre. At the age of 8, Big Zaga fell in love with dancehall, setting the stage for his future endeavors in the music industry.

In 2003, Big Zaga became one of the founders of the group Clan A (Artist Clan) in Kinshasa. However, the group disbanded just three months after its inception, preventing the release of their single “Ekosimba.” Undeterred, Big Zaga reformed the group as “Clan A R2F” alongside FML and Smalto.

Together, they worked on two tracks, “It Moves in Kinshasa” and “Bon Flow,” showcasing their talent and passion for music.

Following the separation of Clan A R2F, Big Zaga embarked on a solo career, initially appearing at sound aperitifs in Brussels with his single “Ecoute moi” in 2013.

In 2018, he adopted the stage name “Big Zaga” and recorded five tracks, including “Yo,” “Viens dans ma villa,” “Songi songs,” “Niongo,” and “TombĂ©,” collaborating with Dramatikange.

However, it was his Brazilian funk-influenced titles “Menealo,” “Traca,” and “Gostoso” released in 2020 that gained significant recognition.

Among them, “Traca” became Big Zaga’s biggest hit, captivating audiences in the United States and Latin America.

Beyond his musical talent, Big Zaga is also recognized as a content creator and video influencer, using his platform to raise awareness and advocate for social issues.

Through his videos, he urges young people to embrace their responsibilities and encourages politicians to address pressing concerns in their country.

Big Zaga’s impactful messages and shocking truths have resonated with his internet followers, solidifying his position as one of the influential voices in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
