Camille Miller Unveils “Shadows & Lines”, A Journey Through Life, Loss, and Musical Mastery

270

Camille Miller’s “Shadows & Lines” is her latest album which features 11 alt-pop-rock songs which were filled with her stories as well as unique musical influences. It is good to note that every single song is subpar but collectively they fit well together and depict life’s experience – the ups, and the downs, then the slow appreciation of life.

Songs like ‘Summer Dress,’ and ‘Smoking Cigarettes’ present real life accounts of the life of Camille complete with feeling residing in sheets of darkness. Of course, the humor in “Devolutionary Change” reveals another layer to her besides the serious point she is trying to make in each of her pieces. This variety is fully realized by being covered up from the beginning till its end with various influences of rock, a hint of the blues and pop with Camille’s jazzy vocals introducing the track’s bridge section.

The standout number ‘Leave It Alone’ is one that sets tone with bluesy numbers, electrifying guitar work and powerful sassy vocals that complements Camille nicely. ‘Nest’ captures her distinct melodic pop rock style while ‘To Be Free’ offers deep and reflective ballad in the lyrical material courtesy strategic guitar basis and sparing but strong vocal. ’Shadows & Lines’ which is the title track is an even more powerful track with great guitar solos and nice, vivid chord sequence which, of course, do not lack confidence and performance.

Made in Lisbon but then recorded and produced with the assistance of Chris Aiken together with members from the Polish and Canadian music industry, it includes inspired and magnificent synths and piano by Mary Ancheta. Together, they’ve honed this lush sound that flavours Camille’s demonstrative singing and lyrics-on-top-of-singing.

“Shadows & Lines” is a glimpse into the life of Camille Miller – a life full of feeling, inspiration, and seemingly, a lot of musical ability. It should be heard by anyone interested in music that can be described as notably heartfelt.
