Glasgow-based, Orkney-born artist Alannah Moar releases her latest single ‘Ready or Not’, a heartfelt exploration of love and timing, encapsulated in her signature sound that blends lush vocal harmonies, sparkling guitars and ethereal synths.
‘Ready or Not’ tells the poignant story of being with the right person at the wrong time, delving into the complexities of knowing a relationship has an expiry date while struggling to let go, capturing the bittersweet reality of a breakup where no one is at fault.
‘Ready or Not’ offers a more relaxed pace compared to Moar’s previous single, ‘Reciprocate’, which was named Janice Forsyth’s Single of the Week on BBC Radio Scotland. The track’s creation was a collaborative effort between Moar and her partner, starting with an impromptu guitar riff that grew into a fully realised song.
Skilfully juxtaposing a positive tone with sorrowful themes, ‘Ready or Not’ carries an emotional impact that is enhanced by Moar’s powerful and evocative vocals.
Renowned for her distinctive brand of dramatic folk-pop, Moar’s musical journey began at 14, over the last decade she has honed her craft to develop a unique sound and has headlined shows in Glasgow and Edinburgh and shared the stage with notable artists such as KT Tunstall, Callum Beattie, Amanda Palmer and The Eves.
“I wrote it with my partner and he came up with the riff, which we really, really liked, and it just sort of grew from that. The topic seemed to fit well with the feeling of the song of time plodding on, even if you don’t want it to. “It’s trying not to acknowledge what you need to accept. It’s trying to hope that things will work out in the end, even if you know that they’re not and I feel like the pace of the song reflects that.”
“It’s one for feeling things out, rather than dancing or screaming. It’s one for curling up on the sofa and melting into all the feelings you were putting off and once it’s done, getting up and starting your day again.”
