Eddie Witz and The Most High Release Debut Album “I Am What I Am” – A Journey Through Resilience and Self-Discovery

96

Soulful singer Eddie Witz The Most High have now released their long-awaited first full-length album “I Am What I Am” containing powerful songs which narrate a story of strength, growth, and the roles of music in our lives. It is a healing album with the music of a famous Californian artist Eddie Witz, which tells the story of search for acceptance and growth.

‘I Am What I Am’ is an extensive study of the emotional topography of a life well-lived, of joy and sorrow in equal measure. This is to inspire uplifted emotions as well as forgiveness and thus needs to find solace in music. The first single released from the album was ‘In Too Deep’ which is an emotive track encompassing pain, sorrow, healing, forgiveness, acceptance and gratitude. Fearlessly, Witz goes straight for the throat, both emotionally and physically, addressing feelings of hurt and the journey to recover.

The first song, ‘My Island’ of this album is a folk tune which has rhythmic beats complemented with catchy melodies and lyrics which makes the listener feel like he or she is on an island. It is a perfect symbol of Pop, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Reggae music. Second, there is the track called “Jamaica Time” which is cheerful tune with laid back riffs and unconventional plucking in the verses that sound a little bit like something that could of been made in the 1980’s pop arena.

The third track is called ‘In California’ and is an emotional pop song which describes the joys and woes relating to Witz’s home state. It is a thoughtful commentary on the sweet-sounding draw towards California and its dark side at that.

The title song is “I Am What I Am” which is a celebration of one’s identity. While its groove is reggae inspired and there are some darker passages, the vocals by Witz are expressive and add the sense of light and shadow. The fifth song of the album “The One That Got Away” differs quite a lot from the previous songs as it can be attributed to the country and Americana genres; despite this, the song conveys a touching story about betrayal through Witz’s passionate voice.

Altogether, “I Am What I Am”could be defined as the perfect summer album , combining music influences of the world music with folk, americana, pop and reggae styles. Every song encourages the listener to dive into various aspects of the emotional aspect of life; therefore, it is a transformative experience.
