Award-winning jazz vocalist, composer, and producer Eugenie Jones releases her stirring new single “Starlight Starbright,” a dreamlike ballad pulled from her critically acclaimed 2025 album EUGENIE. Infused with cinematic strings, lush harmonies, and the kind of vocal vulnerability that’s become Jones’ signature, “Starlight Starbright” is a luminous anthem of rediscovered love and second chances.
With Mamiko Watanabe on piano, Yoojin Park on violin, Jessica Wang on cello, Lonnie Plaxico on bass, and Russell Carter on drums, Jones brings this original composition to life with sweeping elegance. As the instrumentation gently swells, Jones summons the nostalgic glow of a classic ‘50s love song, weaving in a soulful reprise of the childhood rhyme from which the track takes its name.
“Starlight Starbright is a believe-in-love-again ballad,” says Jones. “It’s about the miracle of second chances, told through melody, emotion, and lyricism that I hope reminds people love is always possible—especially under
a starlit sky.”
The single is a standout among the 13-track collection on EUGENIE, Jones’ latest full-length recording and her most intimate to date. Unlike her previous JazzWeek Top 10 double album Players, which spanned four cities and over thirty musicians, EUGENIE is a more focused showcase of Jones’ lyricism and vocal range—from sultry blues to swing to deeply affecting ballads. Produced by jazz luminary Lonnie Plaxico, the album includes both fresh interpretations of jazz standards and six original works, adding to Jones’ growing legacy as a thoughtful, fearless composer.
Since her debut in 2013, Jones has garnered praise for her emotive storytelling and vocal agility. Paris Move calls her “one of the most beautiful voices in the United States.” NEA Jazz Master Reggie Workman hails her as “an extraordinary singer, songwriter, and a source of light.” With each release, Jones continues to grow artistically while championing jazz as a vehicle for expression and healing.
“It’s important to me to know that I’m taking on new challenges, growing, being more today than I was yesterday,” says Jones. “I’m thankful that the outcome of this project reflects that desire.”
