Perry Alford Jr., aka “PJ,” hails from the Western Suburbs of Chicago and is a dynamic producer with a penchant for jazz fusion. As a former drummer for the youth choir at Progressive Life-Giving Word Cathedral, his musical journey was shaped by a love for jazz, particularly inspired by The Dave Weckl Band. PJ’s unique style, influenced by out-of-the-box time signatures, evolved during his years as the official church drummer, performing at notable events like Six Flags Great America Joyfest and the City of Chicago Gospel Music Festival.
Transitioning from drumming, PJ embraced the role of a producer, a move that proved pivotal in shaping his future. The inception of the “Drummer Session” project showcased his creative prowess, bringing together musicians of varying expertise to collaborate on his tracks.
Through video recordings of these sessions, PJ not only showcased his musical and artistic talents but also empowered fellow musicians to embrace unconventional sounds. His journey from church drummer to innovative producer reflects a commitment to pushing musical boundaries and inspiring others in the process.
