Heather Ferguson, releases of her latest single, “Fly to Me,” an original song she wrote in 2021 for her grandson, Wren, who at that point was yet to be born. This touching and beautifully arranged piece is now available for listeners to enjoy.
“Fly to Me” is captures the profound bond between a parent, or grandparent, and child which Heather depicts for this release with a sentimental keepsake—a cushion Heather bought in Italy in 1999, with a picture of a parent dog gently nuzzling a puppy, perhaps a Lab or Golden Retriever, a reminder of the joys of parenthood.
Heather describes the song’s narrative: “Imagine a time when your child is all grown up—traveling and exploring the world—now coming back to you. Every parent can relate to sending their child off into the world for the very first time, for school, travel, or even just a Saturday night party, and waiting impatiently for them to return. This song is about the moment when you know your child is returning, maybe not for long, but after their first big foray into the world. You worry about them. You are dying to hear about their experiences and although you want them to stay forever—you hope they will continue to explore and grow in the world.”
Heather wrote “Fly to Me” while in Mexico. The song initially started as a dance piece, influenced by the vibrant Mexican and Latin American rhythms she was hearing. However, as it evolved in performance and recording, it transformed into a gentle and loving ballad, reflecting the deep emotional connection and tenderness between a parent and child.
