The new single of GMG called Jetpack (Push On) is a strong and refreshing song that provides the audience with a clear insight into the creativity that is emerging in the artist. The song exposes the facts of the music industry and demonstrates how the sound of GMG has progressed throughout the last year. The music was made under the influence of a combination of factors, such as the emerging PSX/Frutiger Aero aesthetic and a reminiscence of Jet Set Radio, which makes it sound modern, energetic, and personality-filled.
The rapid rhythm catches attention at the very beginning. The synth components are infectious and well-organized, which provides the song with a sunny and thrilling atmosphere. The change of style, the interruptions, and the drum patterns, in particular, all combine to make the experience lively and interesting. There are some points when the drums produce a rhythm that is both original and unforgettable.
The most memorable of the moments occurs at around 2:00 with the vocals coming in with the chant of push on… push it on. This section is very inspirational, it is as though a shot of energy that propels you forward. The instrumentation in the background in this part enhances the message further by giving the music an extra push and inspiration.
Jetpack (Push On) is also a glimpse into the next second album of GMG called Dark Forest Conspiracy which will be released on December 15 th. The single also sees GMG parting ways with the conventional hip-hop sound and adopting a remix/sound collage approach inspired by the likes of Amon Tobin, Squarepusher, DJ Shadow, Daft Punk and Hideki Naganuma.
Generally, this release is innovative, daring and thrilling as a good indicator of what is in store next of GMG.
