Jonathan Grow has released his three track piano composition EP titled “3” a vivid display of a fine art of composing.
The EP starts with “Les Trois Vies de Marie-Laure” and I couldn’t help feeling immersed, as the song almost effortlessly offered a glimpse into the emotional realm. The core idea of the piece is a motif taken from the book “All the Light We Cannot See” by Erik Satie. It symbolizes the void and self-discovery through the blend up of the two opposite emotions of sadness and hope.
The next song is “Le Vol” which really expands this range of emotions, dipping you down to the depth of sorrow, then grief which eventually welcome your loss. Grow successfully creates the atmosphere of a song that moves from an ultimate feeling of loneliness to the understanding and of a more true feeling of empathy. The careful employment of various orchestral with the piano enhances the feeling of depth and richness to the feelings expressed in this song.
“Devenir” is the last song on the EP and it focuses on our mental growth and affirms our values throughout our lives. The string instruments, woodwinds, brass, which play together add up a bit of class and elegance to the song. At the end, you will be left with a great mixture of the emotions of joy and vigor.
Each song on the EP are skillfully designed to capture a different side of human experience as the whole theme is about number three. From the complexity of self-realization to the universal emotions of sorrow and, finally, rather acceptance, Johnathan Grow basically envelops listeners into his music helping them to contemplate on their journeys.
