Laughghter Explores Cycles of Self-Destruction and Existential Doubt in their Debut Single “Satan Stop the Wheel”

264

Laughghter is a new indie music project from London consisting of two musicians with the release of their first track “Satan Stop the Wheel” which is ambiguous, humorous, as well as empathetic, and conceptually and visually vanguard. It is kind of a story telling release, owing to its format and the dark themes, a forerunner to their album entitled “Killing, Grief, and Lies.”

While “Satan Stop the Wheel” is about cyclical nature of the self-destructive intent, which addresses the spheres of doubt, desire to get approval, and existential anxiety. Laughghter with an emphasis with Americana and Country & Western took inspiration from these genres while controlling a modern feeling. Lyrically, this song is sharp, with lots of puns and biting irony added to the song so that the rather grim topic feels playful rather than oppressive.

The duo pays tribute to W.B. Yeats and his A Vision for the “Great Wheel,” while structuring it in the biblical and Dantean sense of the battle and living experience. Such a thematic bulk enables “Satan Stop the Wheel” to address the audience on the different levels – telling the simple story of the constant failure cycle and the more abstract experience or life trials.

Speaking of music, the track is dark and brooding instrumentally yet bright and ethereal in its melodies and has haunting introspective vocals. It’s a fascinating piece that is a strong foundation on which to begin expecting great things from Laughghter’s up and coming EP, which is set for a release on October 18th and establishes them as a emerging story-telling force within the realm of indie music.
