The latest album by Leon Bahar is “Back to Beginnings, Vol. 1” and the albums is joyous and full of youthful vigour and brings an upliftment to the spirit and a feeling of leaving the listener in a musical land full of bonhomie and the joy of dancing to the music. Featuring five tracks, it showcases many styles of bass music with emphasis on drum and bass and jungle, which means that no matter the occasion – be it at the beach or the gym, or simply dancing to the night, it is a perfect accompaniment.
The EP begins with the song “Cave Rave” an idea that was derived from an actual party that Leon and his friends staged in a cave. The track gives the exact feeling one gets during such nights: warmth, companionship, and a kind of interpersonal affection that only music can conjure. It is danceable, fun, and full of life; one of the album’s highlights.
This is followed by “La Ensalada del Diablo”, which carries a humorous anecdote about an old man from Spain; the man had this marijuana known as ‘the devil’s salad’. This track defiantly has that Spanish feel to it but even so it has not been afraid to rock out and the sampling coupled with the beat proves this.
The third focus track, ‘Running with Dogs’, has Leon crooning about his time in Spain after losing his own dog of 17 years, where he was working with dogs. Lyrically it is extremely positive, but rather slow and reflective – the flow of the track just brilliantly mixes both sentiments.
“Back to Beginnings, Vol. 1” is more than can be summarised as an Electronic Package; it is an experience. Every song has a storyline that will encourage every listener to follow Leon on his path through the reminiscence of the past, excitement for music, and the beginning of a new stage in his creative persona, Vavou. This is an EP that those in search of both positivity and introspection should get into.
