LysJoy’s latest single, “PocPoc Song,” is a delightful fusion of Afrobeat and Soul, performed in Lingala. This groovy track is an ode to blossoming love, capturing the exhilarating rhythm of a racing heart as a man elegantly and confidently knocks on the door of a woman’s heart, setting off a symphony of emotions and feelings. It’s a celebration of love in all its glory, inviting listeners to get swept away by the joy and passion of an unforgettable encounter.
The single heralds the release of LysJoy’s upcoming album, set for release in the fall. With “PocPoc Song,” listeners are given a taste of the captivating blend of genres that characterize LysJoy’s unique sound.
After releasing her first EP in 2021, which drew from the repertoire of an Australian Christian pop group, LysJoy began to define her musical identity. This initial studio experience marked the beginning of an artistic journey that skillfully merges Pop, Soul, her African roots, and Western influences.
Since this first musical venture, LysJoy has been driven by the desire to create and compose her own repertoire, an ambition she shares with her producer, Piotr Paluch. Together, they have embarked on the creation of their first album, an inspiring artistic collaboration where each artist enriches the other, establishing a perfect fusion.
At the heart of this project is a clear vision: songs in Lingala, carried by melodies that move both body and soul. This music oscillates between jazz subtleties with rich harmonies and deep sensitivity, enhanced by a genuine string quartet, all driven by an omnipresent groove that etches each emotion into the listener’s soul.
The creation of “PocPoc Song,” like the rest of the album, was a close collaboration with Piotr Paluch. The song’s essence emerged from a simple “poc poc,” an unassuming sample that gave birth to an infectious beat, born from a desire to have fun, without pretension. Inspiration, however, is often unpredictable, and this “poc poc” evolved into a vibrant song for which LysJoy then crafted a sunny melody.
Composed in a modern style, the instrumental was laid down first, followed by the melodic line. Meticulous arrangement and production work then integrated strings evoking the softness and nostalgia of soul music, while maintaining a current and organic beat. Thus, “PocPoc Song” was born—a song celebrating love and the joy of life with a touch of modernity and a healthy dose of romance.
