Review: “Leaven” May Carlton B. Reid III

427

The latest piece of spurs L. Reid III, entitled “Leaven,” is the most recent witness of human spirit which finds itself in the midst of pain and suffering. The powerful and hope-giving tune comes with the feeling-affirms lyrics that are an appeal to those who may be dealing with either physical or mental pain.

In the “Leaven,” Reid openly writes about his own struggles of a mental illness, stressing how to be story shaper and keep on controlling hope. His writing style transmits a confidence in God and that soon there will be light and that the battles will be over, even when everything seems hopeless.

He makes his music to honor his mother who was a completely trained pianist, and well-known for her kindness and cheerfulness. He therefore, puts a similar character of kindness and generosity in the music that is inspired by his mother. Besides keeping some water bottles in her car for the homeless, Reid’s mother wants her songs to heal hearts and offer consolation to souls in the same way strangers touch each other’s lives with an act of kindness.

Although he is not really well-known as an artist, one can clearly see Reid’s unique style and unfailing confidence in “Leaven.” It is interesting to see how he is willing to embrace his quirks and share his personal struggles, all of which makes his music more lively and authentic. This in turn resonates with the listeners who can identify with his feelings of being an outsider and having their unique light in

Finally, the song is not only about music but also a beacon of light in a world that is at times gloomy. His music does that through reminding us that no matter the odds, we always have a reason to be hopeful and that makes our tomorrow to always be brighter.
