Mohawk Castle Releases Ethereal New Single, “Crawl to Me”

109

Mohawk Castle also the brainchild of Erik David Hidde’s “Crawl to Me” is breathtaking and glowing piece of nostalgic ambient indie-pop, full of lush, syrupy harmonies, simple and touching lyrics and the message of hope and self-recognition. This track was done by Hidde in his living room for 9 months and is about growth and leaving behind cycles. As a story of exterminating generations’ misconduct and beginning a new life, “Crawl to Me” remains an innovative, emotional call.

Erik David Hidde.

The song begins with a calm, ethereal and expansive texture giving off a feel of serenity close to that of a dream. On it Hidde’s almost heavenly voice floats over some metallic beats and other various noises; the track develops into quite fantastic left-field electronic pop dream. Laying less emphasis on conventional standards of bounding the song into a particular type of genre this track is amalgamated with elements of ambient, indie and even electronic feel that render the song timeless yet distinct. There is an abrupt use of a base as the track progresses, which brings an underneath and swaying rhythm which adds a lot to the emotional feeling that is created.

Lyric wise “Crawl to Me” explore more sections such as redemption, acceptance of aging and finding one’s purpose in life. The highly emotional context in the song combined with Hidde’s on-stage anxiety reflect his desire to cast off burdens, the screaming to himself comes as impactful.

The production is just as good as the songwriting, with glistening keys and a starker contrast in the drums, providing a dense sound. With “Crawl to Me” Mohawk Castle gives hope with an engaging song which underlines the direction and concept of the musicians’ creativity and opens a new page in his creativity.
