Black Cinema is the new offering for the fans of Nova Dream, an emerging Irish Alt Rock band based in Dublin. The single consists of two songs, “Black Cinema” and “Rearrange” and the band’s unique style can be observed in the combination of deep lyrics, dark instrumentation, and a longing for the past.
The title track, ‘Black Cinema,’ best captures Nova Dream’s approach to the modern genre of alternative rock. The song is very planned and composed to the last detailing of the subparts and orchestration which shows the direction of the creative intentions of the band. The combination of rhythm and lead guitars is also excellent and adding a lot of depth to the sound, while the emotional and expressive vocal should also be mentioned. The excellent singing acrobatics demand attention; as it lectures the listener on various aspects of the piece, the basslines add depth and clarity to the easy-flowing guitar intermissions, held down by spirited drums.
Lyrically, “Black Cinema” has these rather deep themes that touches on the well, virtues or rather vices of humanity well done in a sincere. The combination of different melodious and harmonious parts which makes the song even more emotional one can also be considered as great advantage of the track.
On the flip side, “Rearrange” sounds like more standard screw-you alternative rock with obviously 90’s influence. For this track, the trio embraced the aspect of the flaws and the general issues, which people face in their lives. The rock-infused rhythm gives the song a good percussive element to string it out while the repetitive, anthem like feel of the chorus makes it rather appealing. Something that could be observed is how well the lead and backup vocals are combined throughout the songs.
“Black Cinema” is another proof of rather inventive musical style of Nova Dream and ability to include various types of music into their sound. Although the songs has tough lyrics and corresponding topics, major themes of the songs are reconsideration and reflection. This is an influential statement of the bands developing in maturity.
