Singer Terje Gravdal from Norway releases “Hostage in My Home” as the 11th of his 15 single releases while his daughter Frida Hidle Gravdal performs the vocals. The track is his tribute to his late aunt and every person who finds themselves trapped in their domestic spaces.
The song’s creation history begins in 1997 after Gravdal’s aunt started her diary through the chilling statement “A life in hell and anxiety.” She documented her difficult life by filling 38 diary entries that showed her care for her psychiatric patients sons throughout the years. Her battle continued until her son committed murder by killing a random woman near Haugesund cemetery.
Hostage in My Home serves as Gravdal’s tribute to how she overcame each challenge and found tranquility within herself. The musical composition expresses profound grief together with a deep wish to find comprehension and to remember. His inclusion of Frida brings an additional emotional significance to the performance. Through her shared musical and psychological interests Frida adds honest sincerity to the meaningful message of the song.
Gravdal recorded “Hostage in My Home” twice with Julie Love with the first version being a duet and the second being Julie singing as a solo artist. Every rendition presents an individual view of this profoundly emotional work.
