Ukrainian pianist and composer Tetiana Viktory, now based in France, has released her stirring new piece “Assault des Trolls.” This classical crossover and sympho-rock composition takes inspiration from Edvard Grieg’s “March of the Trolls,” transforming it into a powerful symbol of resistance and hope for her homeland, Ukraine.
Blending the elegance of classical piano with the energy of symphonic rock and a cinematic soundscape, Tetiana delivers a deeply emotional experience. The piece weaves in the Ukrainian folk song “Why Didn’t You Come?” — its haunting melody amplifying the pain, loss, and strength born out of war. The result is both tragic and defiant, a musical reflection of conflict that speaks directly to the human spirit.
A graduate of the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in Kyiv, Tetiana Viktory has spent over two decades teaching at the Glier Music Academy while performing as a soloist and chamber musician. Her background in classical performance shines through, but in “Assault des Trolls,” she steps beyond tradition — fusing emotion, storytelling, and innovation into a sound that’s both timeless and modern.
With its rock-inspired edge and cinematic depth, this reimagining captures not only Tetiana’s remarkable talent but also her courage to turn pain into art. “Assault des Trolls” is more than a composition — it’s a musical call for peace, a reminder of Ukraine’s resilience, and a testament to the unbreakable power of creativity in times of struggle.
