The Beard & The Bird Unveil “Take the 219”: A Musical Journey on the Open Road

39

The Bi-Coastal Duo, The Beard & The Bird, has released their third single, “Take the 219,” inviting listeners on a melodic journey along their favorite highway. Jon and Cat serenade us with a heartfelt tribute to the 219, which stretches from Western New York to Virginia, embodying the beauty of the roads that lead away from bustling cities to a simpler, more relaxed way of life.

With Jon on vocals and guitar and Cat on vocals and upright bass, the duo combines their unique Western swing style with influences from legendary artists like Bob Wills and Django Reinhardt. “Take the 219” was crafted bi-coastally, recorded between studios in San Diego, CA, and Buffalo, NY. The duo brought in talented musician Tyler Westcott on banjo, who added depth during a spring 2024 recording session at GCR Audio Studio A. To enhance the track’s eclectic sound, accordionist Jeremy Spindler and lap steel guitarist Gary Weixler joined the session, creating a lively and invigorating atmosphere. Tony Econom later contributed snare drum and harmony vocals in San Diego at RMC Afterhours Studio.

Curry Hasz, one half of the duo, reflects on their travels, saying, “I love seeing that 219 exit sign off the freeway, because it means we’re almost home.” “Take the 219” resonates with anyone feeling the burnout of corporate life, inviting listeners to “pack the car” and escape down the lush two-lane highway. With its lively tempo and unique rhyming scheme, this track inspires listeners to rush to the dance floor and swing the night away.
