Toronto-based pop-punk band The Downcast has released Something Better, a high-octane dose of emotional honesty that serves as the third single from their upcoming EP You Again?, to be released in early 2026.
Something Better masterfully leans into the classic pop-punk dichotomy: while the lyrics dive deep into the raw, gut-wrenching ache of heartbreak
and the aftermath of a breakup, the instrumentation remains relentlessly defiant, driven by fast-paced punk beats and bouncy, intricate guitar riffs.
The song was produced and mixed by Ryan Fitz (ex-Bearings, Arm’s Length touring), and is sure to have you singing along to its hooky chorus in no time.
“Something Better is an anthem for anyone navigating loss”, says vocalist and guitarist Matthew Rennie. “It’s about proving that even when you’re
feeling broken, you can still find the strength to turn up the volume and dance through the pain.”
