The Holy Gasp Releases A new Song Called 'Havel Havalim'

If you don’t have anything at all, then there’s nothing that can be taken away from you. This powerful message is poetically conveyed in The Holy Gasp’s new single, “Havel Havalim” – available now.

Benjamin Hackman’s ensemble “The Holy Gasp” is back again, creating another theatrical, thought-provoking, and genre-disrupting musical composition as they get set to release their 3rd album – “…And the Lord Hath Taken Away,” available this Spring. It marks their first album since 2018, when they released “The Love Songs of Oedipus Rex,” a 27-person concept LP about a troubled marriage further burdened by the death of the husband’s father.

The Holy Gasp sets the tone early on with whimsical piano playing in the background while Hackman can be heard singing the first verse, pleading: “To each man God gives His breath. To each worm God gives a man. No one halts a gust of wind. Every breath, it blows as planned. Mourn more, you’ll come to know. If it can rain it can surely snow.” The beginning of the song implies that life is both a gift and a curse from a higher power, and that despite the beauty of life, difficulties abound.

The line “To each worm God gives a man” suggests that no one is inherently more important or valuable than another, regardless of their station in life.
