The Pikey Project’s Artistic Odyssey in a Conventional World

389

Mike Wilkie (Mikey) and Nicola Cornwell are the artistic leaders of The Pikey Project, which also includes several other partners they meet while traveling.

After spending two years living aboard a sailing yacht, their voyage took them to New York City exploration and a cross-country road trip in their van, Vera. Currently, the Group splits its time between a ranch in Oregon, St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean, and New York.

The Pikey Project rejects the limitations of traditional titles like artists, musicians, composers, etc. and embraces the fluidity of creation. They want to explore and express their imagination in any manner they can.

The Pikey Project avoids categorization and just concentrates on creating without being constrained by standards or presumptions. Their wide spectrum of artistic creations includes writing, production, design, photography, composition, and more.

They intend to take advantage of the fact that these fields’ boundaries are becoming more hazy as a result of technological improvements.

Why, then, is it called The Pikey Project? When referring to gypsies or travelers, the derogatory term “pikey” is frequently used to include a wide range of ethnic groups who live itinerant lifestyles. The moniker seemed appropriate given their wandering lifestyle and desire to reject limiting labels.

A member of The Pikey Project named Michael Scott Wilkie decided to create a concept album in 2022 to buck the trend of shorter tracks. He ended up writing one lengthy song, nevertheless.

By challenging the limitations of limited attention spans and embracing the power of music that takes time to develop, The Pikey Project invites listeners to engage in this immersive experience.

Every note reflects their dedication to the creative process and their enjoyment, and they sincerely hope that their listeners will feel the same way about the voyage.

The Pikey Project is a tribute to the boundless potential of artistic expression in a society where lines between categories are becoming increasingly hazy.

Unconstrained by labels and norms, they continue to push the limits of originality and imagination. As they embrace the freedom to create without boundaries, their ongoing journey promises to be engaging and constantly changing.
