They Call Me Max Explores Technology’s Cost on Humanity with “Algorithms”

78

London-based collective They Call Me Max have shared a new track named ‘Algorithms’ that seems to lament the molecular change currently occurring with human society as it subsumes itself more and more into a technological and industrial future. The popular for jazz, classical and hip-hop the group integrates piano harmonies, vocals and deep hip hop instrumentals to bring out mood of solitude and introspection. joined by five members, They Call Me Max contributes collaborative spirit to each composition and imprints both reflection and beat into listeners.

The track “Algorithms” is a philosophical concern with the emerging technospheric environment where people are becoming extensions of information processing and where biologic natural pace is replaced by algorithms. Max, the group’s lyricist, said the song was his personal reflection to the subtext of modern society where technology play a significant role, and one feels so pointless. It is about making sense of life around us and the effect of technology in the society. It would be the loss of some particular brand of loneliness, even as everything in the world is getting more connected, thanks to the Internet.

The rhythmic base leaning towards warm, jazzy piano chords, the track blends old school hip hop drumming with the contemporary electronic elements keeping the track quite upscale yet earthbound. With Max’s thoughtful lyrics overlaid on the strong beat of the song the listeners are offered the juxtaposition of the beautiful and the sad – a thought-provoking message about people in the world that belong to digital age now.

‘Algorithms’ sets the band rendering thoughtful combinations of sound and theme. With deep lyrics, accompanied by ambient music, They Call Me Max creates a sound that is thought-provoking, movies-sounding and obviously topical, teaching listeners about pursing one’s dreams in the era of virtual reality at the cost of losing the very essence of personhood.
