Addenda by vidpoet is one of these albums if you are seeking an artist who does not stay on the same lane as his/her music. Drop in May 2025, it is an 18-track project that sounds much more like a prepared sound trip, rather than a simple playlist of songs. Between the hip-hop, indie, and electronic moods, Vidpoet aka Chris from Philadelphia combines all these into what he refers to as an indie hop-style, and the name is exactly what it should be.
Addenda keeps it interesting all throughout. Each song has a separate tone but everything goes smoothly in a manner that sounds natural and purposeful. The production has a true DIY charisma to it- similar to handmade beats which convey the emotion but without overdoing it. This album is a wonderful combination of lo-fi sounds and complex detail that provides you with temperature, as well as rhythm in a single serving.
The hip-hop aspect of the project does not make any attempt to take over, and electronic aspects do not overpower anything. Quite the contrary, everything fits in place and makes sense, the smooth beats, background synths, intelligently presented samples. It is clear that vidpoet has taken time to explore various sounds and is fully aware on how to arrange them.
It is one of the most excellent aspects of Addenda to be so cohesive. Although each song has a separate vibe, the album has a bigger story. It is not only about the creation of bangers and more about the creation of a mood that is personal, honest, and reflective.
This is music by a composer who obviously enjoys the art of sound. Addenda can satisfy all tastes: be it experimental hip-hop, mellow beats, or bedroom indie vibes, you can find a little of everything here but never sounds haphazard.
Vidpoet might not be a household name but Addenda shows that he is a name to watch out for.
