A Deep Dive into Clamber’s EP “Places I Caught Myself Thinking”

318

Clamber’s most recent EP, “Places I Caught Myself Thinking,” is a mesmeric whirling sound trip through the peak and trough of growing up in your 20s. The result is a fusion of elegant folk melodies and modern indie pop as songwriter Kieran Daly tries to lead the listeners to dig deeper into his thoughts and heart through five different musical creations.

The EP kicks off with “Italy”, an indescribable song about the desire to experience something new and the freedom of travelling. Daly’s velvety voice is like a thread weaving through the soft but full instrumentation in a way that it creates a feel of ‘‘wanderlust and nostalgia that reminds of 1980s Paul Simon and modern indie rock music.

With the “Tooting Tango,” Clamber ventures into the dreamy and psyche endeavor. Intricate guitars stream while Daly’s drowsy lyrics are exploring the thin line between reality and fantasy.

“Coldharbour Lane” also becomes more reflective and deals with feelings of emotional isolation and getting to know yourself on a deeper level. What the song demonstrates is Clamber’s ability to merge fragility with power, and the results are an unique self – reflective sonic environment characterized by its profoundly emotional and complex nature

“Watch Out!” increases the emotional intensity of the EP through the use of melodious harmonies and powerful lyrics. The beat of a “heart” sounds loudly as it propels the song and implies the confusion and bafflement that Daly is going through.

The EP ends with the b-side version of “Tooting Tango” which gives listeners a different point of view of the thematic inquiries featured on the album. In “Places I Caught Myself Thinking”, Clamber does an extraordinary job of conveying what it means to be young and going through various ups and downs, making it a must-listen for anyone on the path to adulthood due to the intrinsic appeal of its indie pop character.
