For the first time truly being in the limelight, the young singer K C Q unveils her two debut EPs”Broken Stays Broken” and “Former Teen Model” in 2024 which truly makes for a promising debut in the music world. K C Q is a voice of the street, among the music, family, and life amid the rustic nature of the modern ethos, a fresh perspective that the genre of hip hop rap band that thrives on depth and introspection this season need.
Despite the fact that K C Q is little known as far as music goes, she has a flair for music that could someday catapult her to the utility of the foremost musicians in the world. Pulling from the gritty realism of life lessons learned, her sound is a resilient mixture of wise line deliveries and resonating beats, which represents how she strives to be real and impactful. Her influences are still a fact, and one can feel the sound tradition of such trip hop icons like Tricky or Portishead, mixed with the lyrics ability of Kendrick Lamar.
“Former Teen Model” shows her immense potential in this early era of her discography, fully produced with the rich talents of LA producer Darren Callahan and then redefined in the excitement of live shows. This EP shows the depths of youth mystery, fame and the willingness for the genuine existence and it can all be concentrated in the title that apparently deals with both nostalgia and rebirth.
The lyrics of K C Q reflect her inner self unrestrained and unique. Her music stands out due to the explicit rejection of mainstream music styles and sounds.
Her collaborations notably with the shoegaze band THE LOUD BANGS, and her dream to work with an artist like FKA Twigs demonstrate her readiness to experiment and create. What also makes KC Q special is her distaste for the usual, her love for pub life and loud music, and her desire to perform in small gigs that induce deep connections.
In the future, KCQ does not plan to chase after being a pop chart artist rather work it out as her own music. She has a mindset firmly set into doing music on her own terms and there is no telling how her powerful journey of musical exploration and heartfelt expression is going to be.
Can you tell us about your musical background and what inspired you to pursue a music career?
Me debut’s with these two 2024 EPs, ‘Broken Stays Broken’ and ‘Former Teen Model’. Ain’t got much history in the biz yet, but I’m all about keepin’ it real with me feelings and slammin’ a massive beat behind it.
Who are your biggest musical influences and how have they shaped your sound?
They’re pitchin’ me as Trip Hop, right? Proper old school, like Tricky, Massive Attack, Portishead. Me old man was bang into that, but I’m also well into Kendrick. He’s a legend, ain’t he? His tunes are gonna be around years, just like Bowie’s.
Could you share the story or inspiration behind your release “Former Teen Model”?
Bout a year ago, I knocked out 15 tracks with LA producer Darren Callahan. He polished ’em up nice and proper. Black Astronaut UK picked six for the first EP. Then I jammed with some live blokes in Dec ’23, wanted to get it out sharpish for the summer tour ’round the UK. ‘Former Teen Model’ is more down-to-earth, got more soul, y’know? It’s like the cover – a bit tragic, a bit messed up.
Are there any specific themes or messages you strive to convey through your music?
I’m just chattin’ ‘bout meself, really. Dunno how it all fits together. I don’t play well with the other children.
Are there any collaborations or dream collaborations you hope to pursue in the future?
First collab was with THE LOUD BANGS, this Yank shoegaze band, on ‘The Jamie Situation.’ I was just a nipper then at 17. That was the dream! Now, if FKA Twigs fancies a jam, I’m game. Or any of the big names I mentioned up top.
What do you think sets you apart from other musicians in your genre?
Bin the high hat, mate. That daft trap nonsense can do one. I ain’t about that life.
Are there any upcoming projects or releases you’re particularly excited about?
You askin’ ‘bout me or the rest? I ain’t one for the pop charts, and I’m cookin’ up me own stuff.
Looking ahead, what are your long-term goals or aspirations as a musician?
I just want to play some good gigs and hope 10 people show up. I like pub life and loud shit so I’m goin that direction.
