In his new song “West,” American musician Ki To, featuring producer Delorians, discusses the overpowering fears that arise in relationships when we attempt to comprehend how the other person is feeling or what they think of you.
This song is very relatable, because these insecurities is normal in our lives or in our relationships with people whether it is a romantic relationship or just friendship and its laidback instrumental arrangement makes it infinitely engaging.
The lyrics of the song are about Ki To’s experience of feeling uncertain and learning about love.
This song began when Ki To listened to the music demo for “West.” At first, there were no words to it. Ki To quickly wrote the first version in less than an hour before going to teach a dance class. After that, it was sent to Delorians, who added more lyrics and turned it into the amazing masterpiece it is now.
The lyrics were also inspired by Ki To’s personal experience, thus a point in his life where he was dating and felt a little disoriented, he was able to get along with people effortlessly and was always curious about what others thought of him. “I wish I knew what you felt about me” is an example of a line that demonstrates this curiosity. A breakup was another factor that influenced the song, as evidenced by lines such as “I ride 20 stops just to get to you, Oh why am I such a fool,” which discuss the anguish of the breakup.
Their vocals on the song gave it a relaxing and smooth feel despite the beat been somehow upbeat ; their vocals were airy and so smooth. The drumline is just perfect, the guitars and the other instruments played gave the song some dreamy feel too.
