Musician Ingmar King’s “The Times We Had” is a great choice if you’re looking for a song to add to your playlist that will touch your heart and make you reflect on the good times and mistakes you’ve had in the past, telling you to appreciate your present and see the past as great memories that shaped your life.

The realization that the past is history but that our memories of it will endure in our hearts forever served as the inspiration for the song. Ingmar claims that he began working on this tune while attending Berklee College of Music; a few months before summer break, he gave himself the goal of writing a song in under 10 minutes. He wrote the entire song by himself in under an hour after he realized he was onto something exceptional after the first few bars.

“The Times We Had” is a soulful piece blended with energetic feelings of joy, happiness, pain, distress, and all the memories one can think of in their life. A line in the song says, “There always seems to be a feeling of regret inside of me,” but the song goes ahead to entreat individuals and further give them assurance of accepting the present as a gift and keeping the worst past behind.

French sound engineer Théo Laurent-Vitale, who is a student at Berklee College of Music, recorded the song. Ingmar King played the piano and violin chords that make up such a spiritual instrumentation in the song. The production work on the song is a masterclass; the clarity from the vocals and instrumentals is commendable.

After listening to the whole song, I realized the instrumental began with the cool chords of the piano progressions and later witnessed a powerful surge of violin chords, creating a harmonious orchestral feeling together with the piano chords. Also, Ingmar’s exceptional vocal range blended the instrumental in a beautiful and catchy way with the sweet melodies and rhythm.

For a song with so much message and quality like “The Times We Had”, every music lover who wants to listen to something cool yet soul-reviving should get it on their playlist.
