St Catherine’s Child drops emotional breakup ballad “No More Pictures”

1.8k

St Catherine’s Child releases a new single called No More Pictures.

No More Pictures is a song from that precious time right after a breakup, when heartbreak is fresh and emotions are high, before time and hindsight have cauterised wounds. It was born in the moment you look up at someone you used to know so intimately and realise you don’t recognise their behaviour.

The heartbroken have a tendency to surgically remove one another from their memories, as if you never knew one another at all. We’ve all seen movies where people burn pictures, we’ve thrown away old sweatshirts and returned boxes of trinkets left behind in each other’s homes, but sometimes people aren’t quite finished after they’ve removed all traces of you from their lives, and they begin to dismantle what’s left of the good memories.

It is from this exasperation that I wrote No More Pictures in the style of those big Nashville breakup tunes, all drama and key changes. It’s a little bit angry, a little bit sad, and a little bit incredulous, all centred around that precious time before two people agree never to speak again, when they have both run out of memories to set alight.
