The music duo Arliston which consist South Londoners Jack Ratcliffe (vocalist & instrumentalist) and George Hasbury (instrumentalist & producer) has shared their last release for the year 2023 and that have titled it “Thawed.” Since this is their last release for the year they planned to make it a special one.
The song is a simple story about a person who is stuck in a circle that he can’t get out of. The verses show how the character’s fear grows as he become hooked on negative media. This leads to a state where everything feels unreal, described as ‘coffee and fumes.’ The lyrics in the chorus talks about he the character trying to break the cycle by spending time alone, but it doesn’t work where the cycle starts all over again.
“Thawed” is made of a combination of jagged rhythms, snarling basslines, and smooth vocals. Also the drums, basslines, and vocals make the music exciting and add to the overall spacious sound.
The song begins with an acoustic guitar sound and airy vocals, which made the intro on its own appealing and encouraged me to listen to the entire song. The first verse of the song begins with a hazy, dreamlike atmosphere and then as it progresses it gradually builds up to a chorus that is full of boldness and swagger that continues throughout the song.
I really enjoyed the way the singer performed the song because of how at ease he was and how well the tone he chose captured the character’s mood. The song is so easy to get sucked into and has a lovely composition.
