Vassell Meka: The Jamaican Artist and Producer Redefining Genres
Jamaican artist and producer, Vassell Meka, has teamed up with Zuggu Dan and Prince Negasi to release their latest track, “Hustling in the Streets,”.
This collaboration showcases Vassell Meka’s creative genius as he skillfully merges reggae and hip-hop, infusing his Jamaican roots and authentic sound into the music.
The addition of Zuggu Dan’s rockstar-style guitar solo and chorus, along with Prince Negasi’s captivating bars, adds depth and variety to the song.
Despite the fusion of genres, Vassell Meka has managed to maintain a danceable feel to the production, thanks to the expertise of the late Coldridge Williams, the mixing and mastering engineer (also known as Zimi Cole).
Alongside Kalparkra composer, Vassell Meka operates his own independent label called Legacy Mekas Muzik, which produced this track. This collaboration exemplifies his genre-merging abilities and sets the stage for his upcoming debut album, set to be released later this year.
The album promises a rich mix of vibes, including lovers rock reggae, fusion music, and dancehall.
In addition to his own music, Vassell Meka has also produced a song for the Chili Guys, a newly-formed trio from Miami, Florida, under his record label. Their song, “Seeds,” was released on June 13, 2023, and quickly climbed to the number one spot on the US iTunes reggae chart.
