Mike By Name’s new single “The Vibe Operator” put me in mind of the late great Michael Jackson, and I have no doubt that it will have the same effect on you.
In addition to being the title track of Mike’s first solo LP, “The Vibe Operator” will also appear on the LP. A modern blend of music, live theater, and film tells a science fantasy story that will surprise and delight audiences while leaving them with something to boogie to and ponder for days later. The song’s funkiness comes from Prince and James Brown, while the rock ‘n’ roll attitude comes from acts like Lenny Kravitz and Led Zeppelin.
I couldn’t help but bob my head and tap my toes to the song’s infectious, energetic instrumentation. After 24 seconds of what seems like a raucous crowd chanting “Vibe,” the song’s actual instruments—beginning with a striking electronic guitar chord and continuing with the percussion and other synth melodies—enter. The percussion and guitars meshed perfectly, giving the whole thing a cinematic yet live performance vibe. It seemed as if Mike and his band were performing in front of me onstage at a real theater. It certainly had the feel of a real performance.
Mike’s singing was strong all the way through the song. The song’s catchiness was a result of his deft manipulation of pitch and vocal style.
The phrase “Vibe Operator, Vibe Operator with the Vibe” appears numerous times throughout the song, dominating the lyrical content. Simply listening to this song should convince you that he has good taste in music. The song was produced by himself; he wrote song and performed all the instruments
You should add “The Vibe Operator” to your playlist if you have the vibe too.
